I spent much of last week trying my hardest to photograph one of the most elusive birds here in the Forest of Dean, the stunning Hawfinch. I managed a few shots of birds in breeding condition that I am really pleased with. Most didn't need cropping and editing was kept to a minimum, this is something I am determined to get better at.

The Hawfinch really is a fantastic bird, with its heavy, metallic looking bill, superbly neat plumage, and ornate primary feathers. I have tuned my ears in to their clicking calls and quiet song, and now hear one just about everywhere I go in the forest.

Hopefully I will have a chance before the end of April to get some more shots!

Updates can now be viewed in the Hawfinch gallery.
