Whilst out walking in the Forest of Dean today, I heard the cascading song of a newly arrived Willow Warbler, my first of the year. Spring is most definitely here! I know that following the Willow Warblers will be Pied Flycatchers, Common Redstarts, Tree Pipits, Wood Warblers and many more. Its a fantastic time of year, winter birds like Bramblings and Fieldfares are still present, and summer visitors are arriving daily.

I will be spending my summer working as a volunteer for the RSPB at the Nagshead reserve in the forest and the Peregrine watch point at Symonds Yat. I am really looking forward to the Nagshead work, a reserve famous for its breeding Pied Flycatchers. I have already been helping with point counts, and now I have my own section in which I will be mapping the breeding territories of specific species.

Here's to a cracking wildlife filled summer!!
