I photographed this male Brambling at the weekend here in the Forest of Dean and was determined to make out the digits on the ring. After a lot of frustration and who knows how many shots, I was able to make out all but one number from four images cropped to about 200%.
I sent the details off to Stavanger Museum in Norway who kindly supplied me with the bird’s information this afternoon. It was ringed in Verdal, Norway, on the 11th of September 2006. I am chuffed to bits to get this recovery without the need to recapture the bird; it just shows how useful digital photography has become.
I expect the bird will be off on his 1000+ mile trip back through Norway very soon and I wish him well for the coming breeding season!
